Gallery of Style: “Evening Poplars!”

“Evening Poplars”

Welcome to my first roundup of photos for TC Steele’s “Evening Poplars.” If you’d like to read more about why I selected this piece of art, you can find that here. To read more about the art, the artist, and my outfit, you can find that here! But, you’ve come to see not me, but the others who have joined in on the styling for “Evening Poplars,” right?

Gallery of style…

First, we have Sally from Within a World of My Own. Sally chose to  go with a black and dark olive green floral/leaf print dress and other items from her fall/winter capsule wardrobe. She is a master at thoughtfully putting together looks as well as creating earrings and bracelet stacks to accentuate them.

My co-host, Salazar, says, “I went with the dark green/olive color scheme and added a white sweater for the color and texture of the sky. I also topped off the outfit with my tree pin.” You can find her post here!

Shelbee, my other co-host, couldn’t decide on her outfit, and neither could I! She says, “I chose my new tan dress with green velvet flowers because the color palette is so similar to the colors in the painting. Then I couldn’t decide between 2 different denim jackets to wear to represent the color of the sky. The lighter jacket is white with light blue vertical stripes which I felt more accurately represented the color of the cloudy gray sky. I also liked the vertical stripes for representing the tall vertical poplars. But then my denim jacket with the pearls looked really cute, too, offering a darker shade of blue to add to the moodiness that the painting exudes. And if I am wearing no jacket with the dress, my minty green hat acts as the representation for the sky! I opted for my white cowgirl boots instead of brown ones because of the white that dominates the cloudy sky portion of the painting.” Her post is here.

And, finally, my look featuring an oft seen dress from April Cornell. I went in a completely different direction, focusing on the figure in the middle to foreground of the art work.

And, that’s a wrap!

My first gallery of style for Style Imitating Art…thank you to Sally, Salazar, and Shelbee for participating! Remember, you don’t have to have a blog to be a part of this style challenge. You can send a photo to the curator to be included in the gallery of style! We’d love to have more people join in!

  1. Very nice interpretation, I like that painting a lot. Love Salhazar s brooche!

  2. You all look so lovely!

  3. All beautiful outfits! This was such a great choice of artwork and everyone did an amazing job styling it. We need to get more people participating with these challenges though. They are so fun…I want to see more outfits!

    • Thanks, Shelbee! I would love to see lots more people joining us! I think I will put a little blurb in my posts for SIA from now on!

  4. I adore all of these looks! Still obsessed with this piece of art.

    • Thanks, Kathrine! It is truly is stunning in person. You should pop into the IMA the next time you’re headed to or from IU! I’m just kidding…I remember those drives to and from visiting. You just want to get where you’re going, right?

  5. Ooh, everybody looks great! And such a nice variety too!

    • I think that’s what I love so much about SIA! You start out with the same thing and come up with such varied looks!

      Thanks, Salazar!

  6. I love the warm brown, green, and burgundy tones that appeared in the outfits this week. It’s hard to go wrong with a beautiful nature scene as the inspiration, and I liked that participants were divided between those who were inspired by the trees vs. the walking figure.

    • Thanks, Sally! As with most of the challenges I set myself, I never consider what I’m actually going to do with it! But, I just loved this painting when I saw it. I think everyone did such an amazing job. It is fun to see what people pick up on as they create their outfits!

  7. It’s fun to see how each one of you interprets the art! Such a creative bunch!

  8. I think this is my favorite blog that you’ve done! I also particularly like this category. Lovely interpretation!

    • Thanks, Nancy! I really do love the Style Imitating Art challenges because I learn about a new artist and a piece of art at the same time. Then, I have to figure out what to do to meet the challenge. It’s been lots of fun!

  9. It’s so fun to see how each person gets inspired in different ways.

    • I love how some pick up on minute details while others go with their guts and others go quite literal. It has really made me stretch at times!

      Thanks, Jodie!
