Week 172!
OK, I’m just gonna say it! I’m done with summer. If you want it, please come get it. I’m tired of being hot. I’m tired of the AC running constantly. I’m tired of endless watering of the plants I loved so much back in May. I’m tired of trying to figure out how to dress. It’s hot so I need to wear light clothing, but the AC in some places almost require winter sweaters. I’m just ready for fall which arrives in just a few weeks. So, buh bye, summer! Welcome, fall! In other news, I signed the contract (and it was a huge one) for the kitchen redo! I’m anxiously waiting for it. I just hope I picked the right colors. My aim was to lighten up the space without resorting to painting the cabinets. At our house up north, we did paint the oak cabinets, but they were golden oak. They were also just one notch above big box cabinets. At our last house, that was an easy choice…those cabinets were espresso and showed every single fingerprint! But, Nigel’s budget (note…not mine) didn’t allow for a white kitchen. Our cabinets are beautiful, and I would love them if we had more natural light in the kitchen. I really should have thought that through and just completely reconfigured the kitchen when we were building. It could have been easily done then. Anyway, it’s time for the Weekend Traffic Jam Reboot! I am always aiming for 9:30 pm EDT. So, on with the show, right?

Thanks, Cat! Well, it’s been in the 90s and near 100 at times. The drag races (not drag queens, drag cars) are going on. I can’t imagine being in those protective suits as well as sitting in the stands. We can hear them when we’re outside. I know it may bother some people, but, just like the jets flying overhead, it gives me a bit of peace.
Oh I don’t like it at all that summer is over. I hate the colder temps. But it’s out of our hands. I’m on a vacation at the moment! Yeah, just enjoying to have time! Thanks for the shoutout!

I would love some cool weather, too. So ready for that. Take a breath about your kitchen renovation. Count on it taking at least twice as long as they ell you and then you won’t be so distressed during the process. At the end you get a big present that you will enjoy for years to come. You’ll be fine.

Thanks, Lynne! I know you know what I’m talking about. I think the worst part is the timing. We are doing the demo which has to be done on a tight schedule so I can use the kitchen up until the day before they install either the counters or the floors. I’m just hoping I picked the right things!
I am with you! We are having a heat wave here and I just sweat through my clothes. The mosquitoes are hanging out and it is not fun anymore! Hope it cools off soon for you!

Ooh, how exciting that you are moving forward with your kitchen makeover! I still need to paint my kitchen. I wanted to do it this summer but I got too busy. I’m crossing my fingers that I can find some time in early fall to get it done. However, I’m not ready for summer to be over. Because once it is, it very quickly becomes winter here and stays that way until June! Have a great weekend, my friend,

Thanks, Shelbee! I would love a really colorful kitchen, but there’s just not that kind of light in there. I can understand you wanting summer to stick around. We had a high of 106 the other day, and that was the real temperature not the “real feel.”
I hope the kitchen renovation goes well! We’ve been talking about redoing a couple of our bathrooms but having grown up in a house that was always under construction/ getting renovated I’m just not sure I’m ready to live through that again. Not that it almost always worth it in the end!
Thanks, Joanne! I love DIY! I can only remember my parents doing a couple of projects. My mom was someone who didn’t like to change things often. They bought a lake cottage when I was in my early teens. That was a pretty big project. A few years later, they sold it back to the guy they’d bought it from. The biggest DIY they ever did was remodeling the kitchen. Dad and Mike hung the new cabinets and installed dark green paneling (it was the 70s). I absolutely love DIY and miss doing it. I won’t be doing a lot for this particular reno, but I hope to get going a couple of other projects soon.

I agree – no more 90plus temps and no more tropical humidity. June was wonderful weather here (southern Michigan) but July and August were extremely hot and humid. Although my garden is loving it.
