I’m hoping I can get this post done and scheduled before the power goes out! It’s storming like crazy here. I was at the museum this afternoon, and the rain was coming down in sheets! Luckily, I didn’t see any puddles around as I drove home. It was really dark in the museum when the power flickered on and off. It feels like an early fall evening if you’re just going by the daylight. The temperatures are still summertime! I know I already said this, but I was so surprised at the amount of information I found on our “obscure” artist! If you want to read the post with all the info and more information about my look, you can find it here. The interpretations for the artwork are quite varied! So, without further ado…
Gallery of style…
First up is Sally from Within a World of My Own. She says, “The birds (not chickens, though) on my blouse are hard to see among all the colorful leaves, but I really liked this piece to represent the rooster, hen, and foliage in the painting. I chose a pair of sandstone coral crops that are a good match to the painting’s background color, paired with brown flats that brought in more of that color from the artwork. I accessorized with all DIY jewelry in colors from the outfit to finish things off.” Make sure you visit Sally’s post because her bunny tales are some of my favorite things!
Next up is Shelbee who writes, “I went a little overboard with this one and styled three different outfits! I’m only going to focus on one for my blog post and I’ll save the others for later posts. My photos are numbered 1 through 3 in the order that I styled the outfits. After I was done, I picked the one I liked best for the artwork…which is the second outfit with the red paisley dress. I think the distinct outlines of the paisley print most accurately captured the feel of the silk painting. It also really captured the colors of the rooster and hen. I wore the light blue dress (from outfit 1) as a slip underneath the red paisley dress because the color perfectly matched the hydrangeas. Of course, I wore my rooster brooch pinned to my hat (for all three outfits)! I found this artwork absolutely stunning and it clearly really inspired me! I could probably have created even more outfits if I wanted!”
Here is Salazar who writes, “I immediately knew I’d wear my rooster brooch for this, but for the rest of the outfit, I drew a blank. In the end, I went with this embroidered top as a nod to the flowers in the painting (even though these embroideries are nowhere near as intricate!), these green trousers to reflect the green leaves/grass, and these mules to mimic both the branches and the patterns of the chickens’ feathers.”
While I have several dresses that have chrysanthemums, I didn’t have any with hydrangeas. The one I did have I consigned last year some time, I think! It may, though, be in my archived April Cornell dresses. I bought this tunic in 2012 or 2013 in Burlington at the April Cornell flagship. It doesn’t have any roosters or birds of any kind on it. I did, however, think the flowers really echoed those in the bottom right hand portion of the art. I added a teal slip/skirt to bring in the colors of the hydrangeas. Overall, I like this, but I probably wouldn’t wear it anywhere.
