Happy Autumnal Equinox if you live in the Northern Hemisphere! I, for one, am glad to see it. Our weather even feels like autumn. I don’t think I mentioned this in my post, but there is a documentary on Netflix about the robbery. If you want to watch it, it’s called “This Is a Robbery.” It was really cool to see the inside of the Gardner museum, especially the place where the Vermeer painting would be. If you want to read the post with all the info and more information about my look, you can find it here. The interpretations for the artwork are quite varied! So, without further ado…
Gallery of style…
First up is Sally from Within a World of My Own. She says, “There was a lot of inspiration in this painting, but I focused on the black-and-white tile floor as the starting point for my interpretation, choosing a black-and-white check shirt worn as a lightweight jacket. I brought in the maroon accent color to stand in for the various orange, red, and rusty tones in the artwork. My scarf and jewelry added some of the other colors (like gold and aqua/teal) from the painting as well. The butterflies and elephants had nothing to do with the painting, but these little animal motifs definitely personalized my look.” As always, I’m pretty sure Sally will have a bunny tale to go along with her look!
Next up is Shelbee who writes, “I had just worn this entire outfit (with different accessories) last week so it was fresh in my mind when I saw your art choice. My attention was caught by the beautiful orangish and blue tapestry thing that is draped over the table in the lower left corner of the painting and the pattern and color palette of it reminded me of the batik pattern of this dress. So I restyled the identical outfit that I just wore but I changed my accessories so they are all black and white to reflect the checkered floor tiles. I added new seed bead earrings that have a treble clef design which seemed perfect for a painting titled The Concert!”
Here is Salazar who writes, “I originally planned to wear my gingham skirt (for the checkered flooring in the painting, of course), but it’s been raining nonstop these past few days, so I had to change it for these gingham trousers instead. For the top, I chose this lace-trimmed linen blouse to echo the dresses of the two ladies, my waistcoat is a nod to the tapestry/carpet in the foreground, my shoes have a similar color to the back of the man’s chair, and my brooch (sadly, I don’t have any music-themed brooch!) is to mimic the paintings on the wall. I’m happy with how the outfit turned out, and can’t wait to see what everybody wears!”
Next we have Kezzie from KezzieAG! I’m so glad to welcome her to our Gallery of Style and hope she returns again and again. Kezzie is a flautist and had her friend photograph her at rehearsals! She writes, “I started with this navy checked skirt from Nobody’s Child which I purchased new in the Summer…I added this fun white smock blouse which I bought from a London charity shop. It has a yoke neck which is quite vintage – looking. My Miss Patina jacket seemed to match the lady standing at the front of the painting. Oversized and similar in colours. I wore these Timberland shoes as the match the colour of the cello in the painting. Notice my musical necklace and earrings. Subtle but appropriate I hope. The backdrop is messy but appropriate!”
Finally, here I am! I had a lot of fun with this look. I had a Kantha Bae skirt which so closely matched that of the woman on the right. Next, I added a yellow top and navy vest similar to what the woman on the left was wearing. I thought my sandals did a nice job of picking up on the tapestry or throw on the left.
