Graphic Tees and Swirly Skirts!

I have a thing for graphic tees. I like the graphic tees with only pictures. But, a graphic tee with a message is even better! Once upon a time, Nigel and I laughed ourselves silly when we happened upon a website selling graphic tees with rather naughty sayings on them! We didn’t buy any, but, gosh, was I tempted!

Too old…

Now, I know there are some people who believe a woman of a certain age should not wear a graphic tee. Heaven forbid she wears words across her bosom! But, I think those people are mistaken. I believe anyone can and should wear a graphic tee if it’s their cup of tea (see what I did there)!

What I wouldn’t wear…

While Nigel and I laughed until we cried over those naughty tees, I wouldn’t wear one anywhere I knew children would be. I don’t like seeing the f bomb splashed across a shirt or even on a bumper sticker. I wouldn’t want to be the parent whose child is learning how to sound out words. I also don’t like to wear shirts that are basically advertisements for a brand…unless Gucci or Versace wanted to gift me one!

Oh, something new popped up on the blog settings! I had to play a bit!

And, another thing…

If you’re going to wear a graphic tee with a message on it, make sure it’s legible! There is nothing worse than trying to read a shirt only to receive a dirty look because someone thinks you’re gawking at their chest! Again, that’s just me! I do consider those things when I wear a graphic tee. If, however, the graphic is all picture, then covering the entire chest is fine by me. Is that just me? No? Hmmm…

It’s so good…

If you’re wearing a graphic tee with words not in your native language, you should know what they say! When I bought this tee, I googled what it said! I took German, not French! My tee is from Banana Republic and probably five or six years old. And, I have to say this tee is so good! The tee is white though it seems to read a bit light blue on my monitor.

Swirly skirts…

I am also a big fan of swirly skirts, and this one does not disappoint. There are several layers to this skirt. The top layer is georgette with a plain grey underlayer. The tier at the bottom (or, do you call it a flounce) is also layered with the same grey fabric. The skirt is just full enough to twirl around a bit, but not so full you feel you should be yodeling! I added this luscious black leather obi wrap belt to cover the full elastic waistband as well as to give the appearance of a waistline.

The Lewk!

The last time I wore this skirt on the blog (here), I had considered wearing these boots. But, I’d already committed to the black leather and silver accessories. Today, they were the first thing I thought to wear! I went poking through my jewelry box and decided upon this grey pearl statement necklace from Stella & Dot. The earrings and spikey bracelet are also Stella & Dot. The cuff is from Premier Designs (I think). Again, no links as these are all old items.

Wrap it up, Marsha!

Well, this was a bit of a preachy post! I honestly think anyone can wear a graphic tee regardless of age. Graphic tees give you an edge and take a dressy item (like my swirly skirt) to a more casual level. Graphic tees may not be for you, and that’s ok. You won’t get any judgement from me! So, can we talk? Do you have any rules when it comes to graphic tees? Do you wear them with dressy items to “casualize” them? Please leave a comment or two, and we can talk! I promise to respond as soon as possible.

  1. I just bought my first ever graphic tee this fall… and I’ve worn it once already! When it came in my husband took one look at it and said “but you don’t wear shirts like that!” And it’s true, I usually don’t like any graphics at all. However, I do enjoy seeing graphic tees on others.

    • Hahaha!!! I love that! I don’t think my husband would even think that…he’s just used to me wearing everything! I’m glad you found one you liked though!

  2. So right about wearing what we like and not worrying about age. I enjoy a good graphic tee but don’t always like them on me. I don’t like calling attention to my chest at all so I have to temper my enjoyment of the tees with the reality that I won’t probably wear them! I really like your belt Marsha, I need one like that!

    • Thanks, Kellyann! I know what you mean. That’s what I mean by making sure the graphic fit on your chest. But, if you don’t want to draw attention there, graphic tees are probably not the right choice…that is if they’re the ones with sayings. I think you’ve rocked some pretty great band tees, right?

  3. I love graphic tees! They are such a great way to make a statement and the versatility of how you can rock them is endless. Hope your having a great week.

    • Thanks, Heather! It’s been a fun week so far…the dog had an accident in his kennel so I woke up to that! Only one way to go from there, right? And, I do love a graphic tee! You can say something without opening your mouth!

  4. What does your shirt say? love love the skirt! and your hair is just beautiful!

  5. Not only do I love the graphic shirt and skirt, but the belt?? OMG, it’s perfection with the look and the boots!!!

  6. This is a great graphic tee! My favorite graphic tees are white with writing and if it’s French it is even better. I have found that I don’t wear my other graphic tees as much but I seem to have a hard time finding ones that I like and fit the way I want them to fit.

    • Thanks, Mireille! It seems like graphic tees kind of come and go…at least the good ones. I usually can find ones I like at Old Navy, but I’ve been striking out there for the last few years.

  7. I once had a tee is somewhere on my blog with the text: I speak fluent sarcasme. Just love that one, and it is true too! Love the combination of your skirt and the tee. It looks very appealing!

    • Oh, Nancy! That is a great graphic tee! I’m pretty fluent in it, too! And, thank you so much for the compliments!

  8. Those boots are so beautiful! I love the stunning embroidery! I have a hard time with graphic tees because I have specifications regarding them too! If they have words I want them to apply to me in some way. I can’t wear anything with ‘coffee’ on it because I prefer tea! So you see my dilemma. It’s hard to find good ones! Yours is darling though and I love how you dressed it up!

    • Thanks, Laura! I was so glad to finally get find these boots in my size! I agree with you on coffee. I don’t drink it either. I also don’t drink wine so those are a no go for me, too! But, I can usually find some good ones!

  9. I like graphic Ts. The ones I wear are usually more images than words, but the combination of both is also fun. I agree that there is no age limit on them! This outfit is great but your embroidered boots are the show-stopper for me…just love ’em!

    • Thanks, Sally! I love these boots so much! They were sold out for so long, and then one day, my size popped up again! It’s funny because, now that I think of it, most of my graphic tees are words! But, I think almost any kind of graphic tee is a good thing!

  10. I love the idea of wearing a graphic tee with a skirt. I have some purchased at concerts. They aren’t long enough to wear with leggings. But, with skirts? Yes! You look fabulous! The skirt is gorgeous.

    • Thanks so much, Michelle! I don’t have any band concerts because I have only been to a couple! But, I love a good graphic tee!

  11. Oh, I’m definitely of the mind that you should wear what you want + what makes you feel good regardless of age! I love you in this graphic tee, Marsha- it’s so cute with the belt and the skirt! Definitely jazzed up, I’m a fan!

Brand new post up here featuring a go-anywhere fall sweater!

    -Ashley

    • Thanks so much, Ashley! I think it’s so sad that women (and maybe men) don’t wear things because they think they’re too old. Life is just way too short to think things like that! And, isn’t this belt fabulous? I’ve been looking for one like it forever!

  12. What a cool combination Marsha! I love the belt and those boots are so cool. I need to wear graphic tees more.

    https://www.kathrineeldridge.com

    • Thanks, Kathrine! I love graphic tees! And, this belt was a wonderful find. I wish I’d bought a brown one!

  13. That’s a lovely blue. I like graphic tees for bands/rockstars, I wish I still had the one I bought at David Bowie’s Serious Moonlight Tour! Thanks for linking

  14. Oh, you sassy thing! This outfit is so fabulously fun! I feel exactly the same as you about graphic tees…they have to speak to me, they can’t be rude or profane in any way, and they definitely cannot be a blatant advertisement for a brand. As for the age part, I simply say BAH! Wear whatever makes you happy! But if your shirt is rude or profane, I might silently judge you! Hahaha. Fun post!

    Shelbee

    • Thanks, SheIbee! I’ll take sassy any day! You know, the f bomb really doesn’t bother me, but I don’t want little ones to see it and say it. That goes for bumper stickers, too!

  15. I don’t think you can go wrong with a graphic tee, and yours is fabulous. The way you’ve styled is absolutely gorgeous too. Those boots, and that belt! LOVE LOVE LOVE!
I’d also like to know what some of those cheeky tees said lol!
    Big hugs
    Suzy xx

    • Thanks, Suzy! I know I will wear this belt so often people will be thinking, “Meh! She’s worn that before!” You know, this was years and years ago, but I’m sure you could find them! We just laughed ourselves silly!

  16. Perfect combination, I love the skirt with the boots, such a great way to lengthen the wear in cooler seasons. Jacqui xx
