Me? Wear a Jumpsuit?

Indigo Daisy Jumpsuit ~c/o

Oh, it’s been years…

Honestly, I think the last time I wore anything even remotely resembling a jumpsuit was probably when I was a little kid! I am pretty sure everyone wore some kind of romper when they were little, right? So, when the jumpsuit trend came along (difference between a trend and a fad, read here), I figured it was one I would skip. I mean, there’s the whole bathroom issue, right? And, could I even find a jumpsuit that would fit this short waisted, thick body of mine?

You can see a bit of the ruching at the top of the back.

Taking a chance…

OK, complete transparency…I did not select this jumpsuit. As I announced in this post, I am a Brand Ambassador for April Cornell! When I found out I would receive this jumpsuit, I was actually pretty excited! I wouldn’t have ever ordered it myself. But, why not take a chance?

Yes, I know my eyes are shut! But, this was a good photo of the jumpsuit!

Indigo Daisy Jumpsuit!

When the package arrived, I couldn’t wait to see the jumpsuit. I mean, I couldn’t wait to see everything, but I was really excited to try on a jumpsuit! When I put it on, I was thrilled! It is such a fun look and so very comfortable. I know there are some who see the word comfortable as a code word for frumpy and dumpy. I don’t use it that way. Comfortable means easy to wear and wear for long periods of time!

An honest review…

The Indigo Daisy Jumpsuit is 100% cotton. I’m not sure if it is dyed with real indigo or synthetic. The website urges washing before wearing. I didn’t wash it before putting it on to take photos…whoops! I always lotion up my arms and legs, and as I was tying the straps, I noticed my fingers and palms were blue! I quickly took the jumpsuit off and made sure it hadn’t transferred to my tee shirt! I then washed the jumpsuit a couple of times in cold water (once with vinegar added). I let it line dry (hahaha…I don’t have a clothesline…I threw it over the shower rod) because I didn’t want it to shrink. Now, it is the softest cotton imaginable! I think, just to be safe, I will wash it a couple more times because Nigel would not be happy if my blue jumpsuit bled onto his grey seats in his SUV!

More review…

While I typically wear a small in April Cornell, I did request a medium in this jumpsuit. The straps truly do tie. I may tie them and then sew them in order to not have to do that constantly. A row of small coconut shell buttons with elastic loops closes the top half of the jumpsuit. And, here is where I’m going to be honest! If you have to go and are wearing this jumpsuit, don’t wait until the last minute! Those little buttons could cause you lots of embarrassment, and I don’t mean because your bosoms are exposed!!! If, however, you don’t sew the straps shut and would lower the jumpsuit that way, you’re golden! The Indigo Daisy Jumpsuit has adjustable ties at the waist to pull it in for more waist definition or loosen for a more up and down look. There are pockets! There are pockets! There are pockets! I do love side seam pockets rather than patch pockets. The back of the jumpsuit it also ruched which makes for a good fit. There are wide bands of coordinating fabric around each leg. Did I mention there are pockets?

Continuing the review…

Some of the things I love about this jumpsuit are the pockets, the ease of wearing it, and the special touches like that little line of small buttons. I also love the coordinating prints that make this not your run of the mill jumpsuit. When I say this jumpsuit is comfortable, I am not kidding you! The fabric is light and airy. The legs are so wide you almost feel like you’re wearing a maxi dress. But, because they are legs, you (OK, maybe just I) don’t have to worry about chub rub! Those pockets are really large and deep. You could easily carry your phone and not fret about losing it. A couple of things I don’t like are the straps (though I’m going to fix that) and that cute little line of small coconut shell buttons. I know, I know…you’re thinking, “You said you loved them!” I do love them…until I need to go to the bathroom! But, when you know, you plan, right? I think there are many of you who may really like the straps and the ability to tie them up tighter or lower. I like the bows once they’re tied, but while I’m trying to tie them…a royal pain!! Nigel is not a good bow tie-er! He has these huge fingers that just can’t seem to navigate the intricacies of tying a ladylike bow!

Would I actually buy this?

The answer is a resounding yes!! If I were in the store and saw this jumpsuit, I would absolutely have tried it on. And, I would have bought it! The Indigo Daisy Jumpsuit is a fun way to jumpstart your summer look (see what I did there?). In fact, I now have my eye on the Margaret Jersey Jumpsuit because I already know what the pattern looks like (here), and it’s jersey! And, check out this sweet Mini Peony Jumpsuit! I love the look of this one, but I would have to try it on in the store since it’s made of rayon. I’m not sure of the sizing. Speaking of sizing, I am 5’1″ so the jumpsuit is much longer on me than on the model. One of the things I appreciate about the April Cornell website is they give the height of the model and the size he/she is wearing (April also sells men’s clothing).

This face says it all! Happy and comfortable!

The Lewk!

I decided to go with an all natural kind of boho look with my accessories. These sandals are by Carlos Santana and are ages old. My bracelets are all Stella & Dot and no longer available, though you might be able to find them on eBay or Poshmark. Let’s talk about the earrings and necklace. These are both from Target. If you’re from the Fort Wayne area, I’m talking about the Target that was behind Glenbrook and torn down which happened in 2006! That’s how old these are…actually, they’re even older because I would have bought them way before the store was replaced!

I was a little hesitant when the Social Media Coordinator at April Cornell said she’d selected this jumpsuit for me! But, she said she thought it “would look fabulous” on me! And, that’s what I’m always aiming for…looking fabulous! So, can we talk? Do you wear jumpsuits? Have you wrestled with the restroom dilemma? Please leave a comment or two and we can talk! 2. Marsha,
You look so good in this jumpsuit – the color and the fit are spot on! I am so happy you are working with your dream brand, April Cornell. So exciting and her line just seems to be made for you. Glad you washed this a few times, color transfer is no joke. Looking so fabulous my friend!
    xo,
    Kellyann

    • Thanks so much, Kellyann! It really is a dream come true! (And, I was handpicked by April…which makes it even that much more special). I have never tried on a jumpsuit because I’ve just worried about the whole bathroom thing. But, I will figure it out, right? I have a friend who work dark denim jeans and it transferred to a very expensive leather bag! Oops!!

  3. I think she was right, it does look very good on you. I don’t think I have ever worn a romper. But I saw this morning a perfect black jumpsuit!! Think I might order it…..

    • Oh, you should totally order it, Nancy…black? What’s to even think about! I’ll bet you have some amazing jewelry to make it even better!

  4. The jumpsuit is fabulous! So glad you finally found one you love. The color is so pretty on you Marsha! Love the perks of being an ambassador!

    https://www.kathrineeldridge.com

    • Thanks, Kathrine! I am really surprised at how much I like it. Now, I just need to wash it once or twice more to be brave enough to venture onto Nigel’s seats!!

  5. Oh that is so cute! I love the color and that alternating band of fabric at the bottom is fabulous.

    • Thanks, Joanne! That little band of fabric is one of April’s little touches…always go the little extra to make it special!

  6. Funny you would mention indigo dye…I am reading a book about slaves who pick the indigo to be used to dye denim before the Civil War. Glad you didn’t ruin your tee before you could get the jumpsuit washed. Or Nigel’s car seats, either!!

What a deep beautiful color. And I love the daisy print. I have purchased a couple of jumpsuits in the past but only have one that I really like wearing. The bathroom issue is a real struggle for me. Sounds like the details on this piece are perfect…those little buttons, the ties. It is a really pretty piece and suits you well.

    • Thanks so much, Leslie! I was kinda shocked at how blue my hands were. I know they were just moisturized, but I looked a bit like Smurfette!! And, yes, I’m a little worried about the bathroom issue! Other than that, this is the best jumpsuit! It’s so light and airy…like wearing pjs…like I’d wear anything this nice to sleep in!!!

  7. I’m back again….
meant to say in my first comment that you have accessorized this dress beautifully. I love the sandals. I thought first glance they were solid metallic…maybe gold. But I love the mixed metals/beading/colors and textures in them. And your jewelry is spot on. Sorry I didn’t say that in my first comment… Covid brain.

    • Hahaha!!! I love these sandals and have scuffed the toe on them. I have a couple other pairs by Carlos Santana, but I don’t think he’s doing sandals anymore. These are not necessarily walk a mile briskly sandals, but I do love to wear them shopping! And, that jewelry really is so old…20 years at least!!

  8. Isn’t it fun to find that something you wouldn’t have bought for yourself is wonderful?? I think that’s why I like the online clothing boxes too. It’s like working outside of our box.
And the jumpsuit is amazing on you Marsha,
    XOOX

    • Thanks, Jodie! I just commented on Kellyann’s blog…after packing up my clothes for days now…I don’t think I ever need to shop again! I honestly forgot about half of the things I have! And, they aren’t in hiding! My closet is well organized…well, it was…it’s now in seven or eight large packing boxes! But, yes, I was so very pleasantly surprised at how much I liked this jumpsuit!!!

  9. Hi Marsha, I love the look of jump-suits but don’t really, really like them mainly because of the bathroom issues. You look great in this one though and it must be cool as well – also love the accessories. Talking about cool, I am so with you on the seasons you prefer. I don’t like the summer, well not totally true as when it’s warm, it’s lovely. But the heat no, I felt so ill on the third day of our 4 day summer! It’s the humidity, which is horrible. And then what to wear, as in the UK you can never tell how warm it is going to be or whether there’s a cold wind. The number of times I’ve worn a thin cotton dress and froze because of the cold wind…..! Give me winter and winter clothes every time – I love that type of clothing, as they’re so easy and no ironing!!

Good luck with the packing 🙂

    • Thank you so much, Penny! I have to admit I haven’t worn this jumpsuit out and about yet. I’m a little concerned about the bathroom issue…that’s been my problem with them from the beginning! It’s funny when you speak of the weather in the UK. On one of our trips to London in June, we froze! I wore layer after layer even if they didn’t match just to stay warm! And, on another, we were there during a heat wave! And, the Tube (is that what you call it in the UK) was stopped for a very long period of time, packed and a little smelly as many were eating or were on their way home from working hard. Luckily, our hotel room was very well air conditioned! I am just not a fan of summer and never have been! I love the other three seasons because I can walk around without looking like a drowned rat!

      And, thanks…the packing is…well, it’s a nightmare! I don’t know how you’ve done it so many times!

  10. This jumpsuit is so cute on you! I’m glad you had the chance to try it out. I’m short waisted too so I feel your pain about finding items that look good. This really worked well on you! That is one thing I like about blogging-you try things out of your comfort zone and end up liking it!

    • Oh, I’m telling you…it took me a long time to figure out the short waisted thing. Once I did, everything clicked as to why certain things just didn’t work on me…like pencil skirts! They always ride right up under my bosoms!!! And, I agree…I don’t know if I ever would have worn a jumpsuit if it hadn’t been gifted to me!

  11. It looks so cute on you! I am a lover of jumpsuits and rompers, in fact I told myself I have to stop buying them. I am glad that this kind of fell into your lap and that you love it! I think it fits you great and you already listed all the features you like about it. Such a great color for summer but also I think spring and early fall. Marsha, this was a score!

    bosbodaciousblog.blogspot.ca

    • Thank you so much, Bo! I’m not sure I would have ever tried one on if I hadn’t been gifted one! Now, I’m on the lookout for more! But, after packing my closets, I’m not sure I ever need another thing!!!

  12. I must admit I too, at age 61, have bought a jumpsuit with wide legs and love it. It also has deep pockets and is a cotton material, great with a t-shirt underneath. Love the look!

    • Thanks so much, Debbie! I think I’m going to need to buy a few more!!! They really are such a comfortable garment, aren’t they? Like a dress, but you don’t have to worry about wind gusts or how you sit and all of those troublesome things!

  13. Marsha, the jumpsuit is absolutely fabulous and adorable on you! Such a pretty color. The bathroom issue makes me think very hard about jumpsuits. And I don’t think they look that great on me. But I’m just 5’2” – only an inch taller than you – and we’ve already established it looks great on you….

    Michelle
    https://mybijoulifeonline.com

    • Thanks so much, Michelle! I haven’t sewn up the straps yet so I haven’t taken it for a “test drive” yet. That has always been my major issue with jumpsuits. My daughter loves them and swears by them. You have an April Cornell really close to you…you should totally go and try this one…you would be stunning in this color!!!

  14. I’ve tried a few jumpsuits but have never found one that looks good, they don’t seem to suit my shape. Well done on finding yours! The bathroom dilemma is always tricky, as you say, best not to leave it to the last minute! Thanks for linking

    • Thank you so much, Gail! I have yet to take the jumpsuit for its trial run! I have to sew those straps together first.
