Weekend Traffic Jam Reboot!

Week 160!

How are all of you doing? It’s been rainy and downright muggy (do you use that term) here lately. My potted plants are thriving, and some of the weed-killer sprayed ones are recovering. So, I think this summer may be a good one for my plants. I had a jumbo upright elephant ear in a large pot last summer. I kept it in the garage, covered by a sheet. It was fine all winter long. Then, when spring arrived, it decided to droop. My oldest lopped it off, and I thought it was gone. I planted some wave petunias in that pot, and wouldn’t you know it, the elephant ear is sprouting all around that ugly trunk! Anyway, it’s time for the Weekend Traffic Jam Reboot! I am always aiming for 9:30 pm EDT. So, on with the show, right?

As part of our new year reboot, we are now shining the spotlight on a different blogger each week. We invite you to stop by their blog, take a look around and say hello! This week, we spotlight Amalia from Handmade by Amalia.

Amalia says, “Welcome to my blog! This is the place where I write about my crafts, mostly crochet, needlework and recycled paper, and a little bit about my life as it touches it – family, work, travel… I wish to live my life with creativity and kindness and my blog challenges me to do that. I’m glad you stopped by! 10 things to know about me: 1. I firmly believe that god is in the details; 2. I love classic mystery novels and can sometimes work out ‘who did it’; 3. 1. Some of my plants love humidity. I, not so much! I sometimes go and spray the plants a little if the humidity is too low during the day here in the west.

    -Soma

    • Thanks, Soma! I do try to mist my ferns if it’s been really dry. I also soak them in buckets so they get water from the roots up.

  2. Hi, Marsha – It really is amazing how the plants thrive in the hotter weather we’ve been having. The summers here in Detroit seems to be somewhat tropical now. I just have to force myself to go out in the heat to plant more in the garden! Thanks for the inspiration – Angie, http://www.yourtrueselfblog.com

    • Thanks, Angie! I think you’re right, but that also means I have to water them more frequently! Most of my plants are in pots as I just don’t have that much “real estate” I can call my own. I have some hibiscus I need to get dirt for (isn’t that ironic…buying dirt) so I can get them planted. My back porch is becoming quite tropical, too!

  3. I’m not even sure what weather we have right now … yesterday it was sun, rain, sun, rain, sun, rain, it changed so quickly that it was very confusing! 😉
    Have a lovely weekend!

    • Thanks, Cat! I hope your weekend is wonderful! We have had days like that this spring and summer, too. It’s so strange to start out with really overcast and rain-soaked clouds only to have it completely clear in an hour or so!

  4. Thanks for hosting, what a fabulous selection of reads. Have a super weekend Marsha xx

  5. I love elephant ear. And her it’s raining for 2 weeks already. The weed in the garden grows while you look at it! Thanks for hosting Marsha!

    • Thanks, Nancy! I love them, too (are we talking about the kind that grow or the kind you eat)! I planted three or four corms at our last house, and they multiplied so much I had to give bunches away. I’m hoping to get something from this one, but it’s starting to look bad again. We haven’t had a lot of rain lately though it rained quite a bit Wednesday and Thursday nights.

  6. Why are plants so fickle sometimes? My rose bushes have sprouted leaves this year but still no buds have appeared. They struggled last year as well. I think the past few winters might have really damaged them. We try to cover them for protection but I guess it’s not that effective when there is ten feet of snow in the ground. LOL I have about given up on growing stuff. I’ll stick to sewing stuff! Have a wonderful weekend, my friend and thanks for the link up.

    Shelbee

    • Thanks, Shelbee! I don’t know much about roses at all. The landscaper told me to just dump two or three bags of mulch on the part of the bush near the ground. That seems to have worked, but we don’t get as much snow or bitter cold as you do. I love perennials, but I’m really struggling to get some going here. I don’t know if it’s the ground or the bunnies! I hope you have a fabulous weekend!

  7. Marsha,

  8. I need to got out there and pull some weeds this week! My zinnias are popping up, but there is a giant weed that is higher than my jasmine! It’s massive!
    http://www.chezmireillefashiontravelmom.com

    • Thanks, Mireille! I love zinnias, but I don’t seem to have much luck growing them. And, I know they’re very easy to grow. Maybe, I need to enrich the soil and try again next week. Isn’t there a bit of satisfaction, though, in pulling weeds? You so easily get rid of something you dislike?

  9. Glad to hear your plants seem to be doing better!

  10. Yay for elephant ears! They are so resilient! Thanks for the party, Marsha!

    • You’re welcome, Laura! I loved elephant ears (even the tasty kind), but I will definitely dig up the corms this fall. I want that giant elephant ear to show up earlier than this fall (that’s my projection anyway)!

  11. It has been horribly muggy here too but they are forecasting a cooldown next week.
Thanks again for hosting this fun party!
I hope that you have a lovely day!
    Angie
    PS My linkups are 64, 65, 66 & 67

    • Thanks, Angie! We have lost the humidity and gained hailstorms! I hope you didn’t get hit by any of that violent weather last week or this week! Thanks for linking up!

  12. We’ve had some muggy weather too. Yuck!

Glad the elephant plant survived. Goes to show that life will find a way!

We had some similar picks this week!

    • Our muggy weather left for a bit, but I’m sure it will return. I’m hoping the elephant ear has a spurt of growth because the little petunias are covering it up and just playing all David and Goliath with it!
