Gallery of Style: Stork Gather!

Four white wading birds with orange beaks standing and one with wings spread among small white daisies on a green background; illustrated scene.

Boy howdy! It is hot in Central Indiana! It’s 10:10 pm as I write this, and it’s 83 degrees with a real feel of 94 (that’s 28.3 C with a real feel of 34.4C). And, it’s supposed to be this hot for the rest of the week, We’ll probably have some thunderstorms if I know my weather. Ah, the dog days of summer, right? Anyway, I really enjoyed learning about Theo van Hoytema. To be honest, I love learning about all the artists. I might not like their art or them, but it’s the learning I love the most. If you want to read the post with all the info and more information about my look, you can find it here. The interpretations for the artwork are quite varied! So, without further ado…

Gallery of style…

First up is Sally from Within a World of My Own. She says, “My interpretation came together very easily this time: a soft green column for the dominant green grass, a lacy ivory jacket for the textured stork feathers, orange necklace and shoes for the storks’ beaks and feet, white flower charm earrings for the daisies, and a white bird paper pendant for the storks themselves. I would happily do birds and flowers art inspiration every month!” I think, if we put in a bunny or two, she’d be even happier! If you’ve never read Sally’s posts with Style Improved by Rabbits, you’re in for a treat!

Next up is Shelbee who writes, “At first, I thought this was going to be difficult to style but then I remembered this daisy print dress that I bought in early spring when it was still too cold to wear it. The daisies are so close to the ones in the artwork that I looked no further in my closet room. I had already planned to wear the dress with this orange robe which turned out to be perfect for representing the color of the storks’ beaks and legs. (I previously wore this robe with an olive green dress for a February SIA featuring “The Sense of Sight” by Annie Louisa Swynnerton.) On my computer screen, the shading in the artwork appears to have a greenish tint but I found some images of this artwork where it appears more black. Since I already had a lot of black in my dress, I decided to add some olive green with my Furkenstocks and hat. I finished the outfit with a pile of newly thrifted necklaces that have black, green, and orange and my olive green leather feather earrings…because storks have feathers!”

Smiling woman standing on a dirt trail in a green forest, wearing a wide-brim straw hat, round glasses, and a coral kimono-style cardigan over a floral dress.

Here is Salazar who writes, “The outfit was not as bird-heavy as I planned – I used to have a bracelet with a charm that looks just like the storks in the print, but I couldn’t find it anywhere, so I had to make do with this bird brooch. At least the brooch has a slight Art Nouveau feel, which fits van Hoytema’s style. As for the outfit, I went with my green linen pants for the background, and the flowers embroidered on my top are perfect for the daisies. So all in all, I’m happy with how the outfit turned out!”

Finally, here I am. I wore a Kantha Bae Shortie Spellbound kimono. I finally figured out how to fix it so the inner layer stays closed. Then, I just tied the outer layer behind me! The only avian clothing I had is the Tulip Clothing Quails dress (which is also green so coulda worked). But, then I noticed the sleeve of this kimono hanging out and knew I’d found the perfect match! I could even be persuaded those aren’t pink flowers but coral to match the beaks and legs of the storks!

And, that’s a wrap for this Gallery of Style!
