I Don’t Always Wear Neutrals

But, when I do…

I wear something pretty doggone good! OK, technically, this may not be considered a neutral outfit. These are shades of sage green, but they’re pretty close to neutral in my closet. I think a neutral wardrobe is classy and rather timeless. I love seeing others in neutral colors. I also realize I have to be careful with neutrals because they can tend to wash me out.

What are neutrals…

We all know what the neutrals are, right? They include black, white, brown, and grey. Some also put metallics like gold, silver, bronze, and copper into the neutral category. Of course, we can’t forget some animal prints like leopard and cheetah. At this point, some might even include snakeskin as well as zebra. I think it all depends on you! If you think they are neutrals, then they are…for you!

My outfit…

My entire outfit is from J Jill. The tee is the Embroidered Cap-Sleeve Top. I wish I’d gotten this in a petite size as it’s a bit long. Perhaps, I’ll hem it, or figure out some other hack. The pants are Pure Jill Linen-Blend Crops. I don’t necessarily like the look of a cropped wide leg pant on me so I went with the Misses size. I have to say these pants are really comfortable. They also don’t wrinkle quite as badly as pure linen pants. Now, here’s where it gets interesting. I love this poncho, ruana, kimono, whatever you want to call it. I’d seen it in the store, but I didn’t buy it then. I couldn’t get it out of my head so I ordered it a day or so later. I didn’t, however, order it immediately. By the time I checked out, the S/L was sold out. I ordered the XL/3X figuring I could exchange it in the store. The joke was on me…they only had the larger size! But, as you can see, it works just fine! I can’t link to it because it’s completely sold out online! If you like it, you may try your local store. Sometimes, they can check other stores, too.

The Lewk!

I’m mixing my metals! My Carlos Santana sandals are more of a bronze while my earrings are gold. They were one of the first expensive items Nigel ever bought me. I remember strewing over whether or not to keep them. I didn’t wear a necklace as I thought that would draw attention away from the embroidery on the top. Would you believe I don’t own any gold bracelets? When I first started wearing bracelets, I gravitated toward sterling silver. That’s what I still wear unless I wear beaded bracelets.

Wrap it up, Marsha!

This has been a very short post…surprise! I hope you’re not too upset. So, can we talk? Are you a fan of neutrals and have a carefully curated closet? Or, are you a fan of colorful clothing and wear only that? Or, are you like me, and wear mostly one but include the other occasionally? Please leave a comment or two, and we can talk. I promise I do respond as soon as I can.

  1. I think the neutrals and the materials blended together give this look a real classic summer feel. However, I rarely wear neutrals. I do have lots of black in my wardrobe but often pair that with bright pops of color. I think, like you, neutrals tend to make me look washed out.

    • Thanks, Joanne! I’m with you on not wearing many neutrals…and, I know many wouldn’t even call this a neutral outfit. It is for me, though!

  2. I really love this outfit on you. I would be afraid of wearing so much white though. I’d be sure to spill everything I touched on all that white! I especially love the sandals. They are so unique. Unfortunately, I can’t wear anything between my toes. I remember walking home from a city pool on hot cement in my bare feet because the things rubbed my toes raw.
Anyway, this outfit is a winner.

    • Eileen, I look forward to your comments so much! I think we’d be friends meeting over the fence with a beverage on a regular basis! Will you laugh when I tell you I wear a towel around my chest if I’m wearing white and eating anything with red sauce? It’s true…even out in public! For a long time, I couldn’t stand anything between my toes. Now, with my Frankenfoot, it’s so much more comfortable.

Thanks, my virtual friend, for always making my day better!

  3. I love sage green a lot! Such a beautiful sweet colour. And I love your slippers! The best shoe wear for summer!

  4. I’m one of those that has to work to add neutrals to my closet, haha. I mean, I like them and all, but they don’t cause me joy.
I love that kimono definitely. Of course, I’d be wearing it over yellow or pink, hahaha.

    • In the winter, I have absolutely no trouble adding neutrals…they’re my favorites as long as they’re name is grey!

I will have to try with this kimono to see what else works with it. I am pretty sure there’s a thing or two!

      Thanks, Jodie!

  5. I’m all about neutrals lately, and this is such a cute summer look! I love your pretty kimono! The color, print, and detailing are gorgeous!

  6. Oooh, I love this kimono! Such a pretty sage green color. And you are definitely rocking these neutrals in the most beautiful way! Gorgeous summer outfit, my friend.

    • Thanks, my friend! I really do love this kimono even if it’s skosh big! That’s the wonderful thing about kimonos, right?

  7. I definitely like neutrals and this outfit is chic! Different shades and textures make neutrals so intriguing – I used to think neutral meant boring but I no longer think that! Well done, Marsha!
