10 on the 10th: July!

Well, we’ve got that over with! The Fourth of July, I mean! My poor Jack is scared silly by the fireworks, and people here love to shoot off those things. I’m pretty sure many of them were actually illegal in our state, but you know how that is! But, in happier news, July 8th was the second anniversary for my blog! I couldn’t believe it when I hit 50 posts and then one year! But, here we are! Two years!!! I will probably be taking a week or two off just to get some things done. Weekend Traffic Jam will continue, though!

I have to admit I like Would You Rathers best for 10 on the 10th so I was really glad that it was time for another! I do hope you like them, but maybe you didn’t spend years around 10 year olds and continue to find toilet humor hilarious! Oh, well! I do hope you’ll play along and either link up your post (or any others), comment, or email me your answers.

On with the show…

  1.  Would you rather get up early to see the sun rise, or stay up late to see the sun set?  Honestly, I cannot remember the last time I saw the sun rise!  I am a night owl and actually would rather watch the moon rise than see the sun set.  But, I would love to visit some place where the sun sets around midnight.  That’s definitely on my bucket list.  Maybe, some year, I’ll take a knitting cruise with my Norwegian boyfriends and see that midnight sun!
  2.  Would you rather wear sneakers or flip flops?  OK, I have to preface this with a funny story.  When I was teaching fourth grade, one year we were talking about shoes and sandals.  I mentioned wearing thongs…you should have heard the gasps!  I mean, that’s what we always called flip flops when I was a kid.  I don’t know that thongs aka butt floss even existed back when I was a kid.  I do know I never wore any!  But, give me a pair of flip flops any day!  I do have to work extra hard to keep them on my feet as my middle three toes on my Franken foot don’t necessarily pull their weight.  Sneakers are OK, but, given the choice, I’ll always pick a pair of thongs…er…flip flops!
  3. Would you rather have to wear a tutu to the beach or a tiara to the pool?  Hmmm…wouldn’t it be fun to wear a tutu and a tiara to the beach or the pool?  But, if I have to make a choice, I’m going to go with a tiara to the pool because I’d much rather be able to see what’s under the water.  I have always had this weird phobia about seaweed twisting around my legs.  It gives me the heebie-jeebies just thinking about what could be under the surface.  But, and here you see true evidence of me being a Libra, I do love the feeling of riding the waves at the beach.  Riding those swells into the sand is amazing.
  4.  Would you rather have a pool full of Jello or a slip and slide full of pudding?  This one is easy!  I don’t like pudding and think it would feel really gross, slipping and sliding through it.  But, can you imagine the joy of jumping into a pool filled with Jello™?  Of course, the day would need to be rather cool so the Jello™ didn’t melt, right?  Wouldn’t it be fun, though, to also have cans of canned whipped cream to spray your friends?
  5. Would you rather live in a tree house or on a boat?  Oh, man, this is a tough one!  It would depend on the size of both of them.  Just being honest!  If the boat were a yacht and I had the funds to run it, I’d probably opt for the yacht.  Nah, the more I think about it, the more I think I’d go for a tree house.  I love trees, and I think living in one would be pretty cool.  It would have to be a really big tree house and not do any damage to the tree itself.  Ideally, it would have a really cool ramp to get up to it and would have several different levels.  And, since I really, really don’t like bugs, there would have to be some kind of natural repellent to keep them as well as other intruders out.  Well, shoot!  I may have just talked myself back onto the yacht!  You don’t have to worry about snakes and skunks there.  But, you do have to worry about Great White Sharks and hurricanes and seasickness.  Oh, geez!  I think I’d just have to flip a coin on this one!
  6. Would you rather camp in a yurt or in a camper?  A yurt…hands down a yurt!  Camping implies a short term stay so I think staying in a yurt would be so very cool, especially if it was one that had the open space at the top.  While I am not the best cook in the world, I can burn a hot dog with the best of them!  I love the idea of being outside communing with the world.
  7. Would you rather walk barefoot on grass or walk barefoot in the sand?  As long as the grass is the kind we have in Indiana, I’d be walking barefoot on grass.  I have been to some places where the grass is like little sawblades sticking up and that hurt!  Walking barefoot in the sand sounds all romantic and beautiful sunsets in the distance.  The reality is it’s hard to walk in sand because it’s constantly moving.  And, if that sand is hot, it’s miserable.
  8. Would you rather go water skiing or water tubing?  Water tubing for the win!  I tried to water ski once when I was a kid.  It’s a wonder I didn’t drown!  I just could not get the hang of getting up and staying up.  Actually, that implies I’d actually gotten up and then fell.  The reality is I never even made it up!  Water tubing is just so relaxing although there is always that fear that an alligator will take a bite out of my butt!
  9. Would you rather be covered in watermelon juice or ketchup?  This is another easy one.  I am that rare creature who hates ketchup.  I don’t mind it all mixed up in a meatloaf, but I cannot abide it as a condiment.  The very smell makes me nauseous!  Watermelon juice, of course, comes with its own downside…you’d be awfully sticky and maybe very attractive to stinging insects.  But, given my choice, I’d definitely go with the watermelon!
  10. Would you rather go on a hot air balloon ride or a helicopter tour?  Well, this is a little bit of a cheat.  I’ve been on a helicopter tour and was terrified the entire time.  I kept thinking, “There’s only a thin sheet of metal between me and the ground.”  So, I would definitely rather go on a hot air balloon ride.  I think riding in one of those baskets would be fun especially if I’m wearing ruby slippers!

Wrap it up, Marsha!

  1. What a difficult questions. Couldn’t make up my mind on a lot of them! But loved your answers.

    • Thanks, Nancy! But, are you a ketchup lover? Do you even have ketchup or do they call it something else?

  2. Love the blog and we might be a little different as I am a lark and would always rather see a sunrise and I love sneakers and hate flip-flops mostly because they don’t give me enough support under the foot. Love boats and tutus and would rather not go in either a helicopter or a hot air balloon! This is great fun! Thanks Marsha 🙂

    • Thanks, Penny! I love flip flops but rarely wear them because I do need the support, too. I’m surprised to discover you’ve not been in a helicopter or a hot air balloon, Penny! You are always off on adventures!

I’m so glad you played along!

  3. Your answers are so fun, Marsha! I was cracking up all the way through because we answered differently on most of them. But then I got to the ketchup one and I was so excited to know that you are a fellow ketchup hater! The smell is so disgusting! I do not understand how it is one of the most popular condiments. Yuck!

    Shelbee

    • Hahaha!!! I was shocked when I read your response, too! There are so few of us!

      Thanks, Shelbee!

  5. I’ll be back on Wednesday with my post and answers. Have you ever watched the show Treehouse Masters? They go all around the United States building some pretty elaborate treehouses and the guy in charge even runs a resort where you can rent and stay in treehouses he’s built. It’s pretty cool to see and I think I could definitely stay in one of those (as long as it had a bathroom of sorts inside!).

    • Oh, yes!! I love that show! It’s amazing what they create, but I didn’t know he had a resort. Yeah, I’d definitely need a bathroom in the tree house!!

      Thanks, Joanne, for playing along!

  6. This was fun. But I have to laugh with the helicopter vs hot air balloon, there’s not much between you and the ground in the balloon, either, LOL.
And I knew you were a night owl because of when your comments usually come in, haha!! I’m the opposite but I rarely see the sun rise either,

    • Hahaha!!! But, the hot air balloon isn’t moving near as fast as the helicopter!!! I have been a night owl for years now. I’ll have to tell that story some day.

      Thanks, Jodie!

  7. OK, if moon rise had been an option, I definitely would’ve chosen that… In fact, The Hubs will sometimes drive me out moon chasing so I can get a good picture. When we lived in Missouri, it sometimes looked like the moon was so close that it was sitting at the end of our driveway. I miss that connection. Sunsets and sunrises are beautiful too, but that moon… *heart eyes*

    • You know, in the back of my mind, I was kinda thinking moon rise. But, everyone has been posting these gorgeous photos of sunsets lately so…

I do love to watch the moon rise, too. Unfortunately, we only have one east facing window now, and it’s in the dog’s room. He’s usually asleep then!

  8. The hottest sand ever was on a beach on St. Martin . . .I remember we were running trying to get to the water!!

    • The last time we were in Hilton Head, that sand would have fried an egg!!!

      Thanks, Lisa, for coming by!

  9. The thong/flip flop story cracked me up! I would be happy with either the hot air balloon or the helicopter as long as we never left the ground 😉

    • Oh, Sally, you should have seen their faces!!! I’m sure they were trying really hard not to imagine their teacher in a thong!!! Oh, I like the way you think about the balloon and helicopter. But, I think, once you got up in the air in a balloon, it would be exhilarating!

      Thanks, Sally!

  10. With a couple of exceptions, my thought process on these questions was very much the same as yours!

    • It seems most people agree the beach is not the place to be and few like flip flops anymore, either! Thanks, Kym, for playing along!

  11. Sunsets because after the sunset its cold. I prefer sneakers because I love running. Tutu because I love the beach. Pudding because its sweet. Treehouse. Yurt. Sand. Tubing. Watermelon Juice. Hot air balloon.

  13. I loved reading all your answers! Treehouse would be my chosen place to live. That view would be amazing!

    https://www.kathrineeldridge.com

    • I think I would like a tree house, too, as long as no critters could get in!!! Thanks, Kathrine!

  14. I also hate ketchup. It’s just yuck. I also hate mustard. Billy says I live in a very dry world minus condiments, because I don’t like most of them. Lol!

A midnight sun would be cool to see!

    • Oh, I’m not a fan of mustard either, but if I had to choose between the two, it would be mustard. I really do hope I can see the midnight sun some day!

      Thanks for playing along, Erin!

  15. I am late with this, but here goes:
Get up early, especially near water.
    Sneakers.
Wear a tiara to the pool. My granddaughter would love that!
Slip and slide in pudding. Not a big fan of jello.
Live on a boat. I love being near water.
    Camper. More mod cons.
Bare foot in the sand. See a theme here? Sand can be washed off.
    Water tubing . . . Down a lazy river.
    #9 neither.
    #10 neither.

    • I’m so glad you played along, Eileen! Do you live near water? I hadn’t considered a camper would have more modern conveniences, but I’ve seen some yurts that look pretty doggone nice! I am just not a morning person and need to change that one of these days! Thanks, again!

  16. Love this post! Let my mind drift to happy and strange places—a brain smorgasbord! I treasure “Here Comes the Sun,” doo-doo-doo-doo, but sunsets match my circadian rhythms!

    • Hahaha!!! Now, I’m going to go to sleep with that in my head and wake up, too! But, it’s a good song! I hope this week was a good one, Becky!!!

  17. On the subject of flip-flops…I used to work for a large US tech company and I remember reading on the intranet about thongs being banned from one of the US campuses. I was horrified until someone pointed out that thongs were what we Brits call flip flops. That was about 15 years ago!

    • Hahaha!!! Our students couldn’t wear flip flops either as the fear was they wouldn’t be able to run properly in them. So, they had to wear sandals with a back strap. Luckily, that didn’t extend to teachers!

  18. These prompts are great! I was having a hard time choosing as I was reading through them. I do remember flip flops were called thongs! lol. I have waterskied a few times and loved it but I’m not sure I would still be able to get up!

    Jill – Doused in Pink

    • Oh, Gail! You should have seen my students’ faces! They were absolutely appalled! I would surely drown if I tried to water ski now seeing as how I couldn’t do it in my teens!

  19. You have such a fun imagination. Loved these questions. Pudding or jello. Tiara or tutu. I have a similar thong story, too. Happened during an inservice training for therapeutic holds for special ed students. I offered to demonstrate the technique for holding the children and the instructor said I couldn’t because I had on thongs. I heard THONG singular and gasped, saying aloud “How did you know that?” And he replied, “I looked at your feet.” Geez.
As much as I love the beach, I prefer walking on soft (Indiana/Tennessee/Kentucky) grass. Would rather tube than ski these days. Looked into renting a yurt in central Texas recently but it was quite expensive. Will save that for when we win the lottery.

    • Hahaha!!! Oh, my goodness! Did he figure out what you thought he meant? Oh, that makes me chuckle!! I keep telling Mike we need to buy a lottery ticket because it’s so high right now, and we might just as well win it as anyone else!

I’m glad you liked my questions!
