Nothing Deep Today!

Just a little fashion…

When I was pondering blogging, my coach, Debbie Stinedurf, of Your Styled Story (formerly Fashion Fairy Dust) urged me to contact other bloggers. One replied I needed to find my niche and run with it. That was really less than helpful, but I think she meant well. So, I’ve been trying to discover my niche…even though I’m not entirely sure what that means in the blogosphere! Am I a fashion blogger? Well, some of the time, I am. Am I a storyteller? Lots of the time, I am. Am I lifestyle blogger? I don’t think I am, but maybe? Today’s post is going to be another short and sweet one focusing mainly on the fashion side of the blog!

All the feelings…

Is it ok for a 64 year old woman (almost ready for Medicare) to use terms like “all the feelings” or “I don’t want to adult today”? Well, since I have decided to not care about what is and isn’t ok for a woman my age to wear, I’m going to also decide I can use these phrases! This dress gives me all of the delicious feelings! I almost feel like Cinderella in it…the Lesley Ann Warren Cinderella, though! This dress, the Somerset Sundress, has these inverted pleats with a coordinating polka dot fabric. The skirt is full and twirly! It’s definitely a maxi dress on me and will probably remain that way! It also has pockets!! And, I definitely feel snatched (another term some might say I shouldn’t use) in it! It is on major sale right now (as are many of the April Cornell fashions I’ve shown this spring and summer). Here, here, and here are some of my April Cornell buys from this year!

The Lewk!

This dress definitely called for some higher shoes! My Sarah Flint Mirjana wedges (gifted) were perfect. I added two different blingy necklaces. The long one is looped twice. The other is a long spike with bling. Both necklaces and the earrings are from Banana Republic and are very old. The bracelet is an oldy, too, from Premiere Designs. The rings are my “Mom” rings (I bought them with part of my inheritance from my mom). I think of her every time I wear them.

Wrap it up, Marsha!

Sometimes, I just have to accept the fact I can’t be charming and witty in every post (hahaha)! Seriously, I am not really sure what niche I am, but that’s OK. I get to share thoughts, memories, and some cool clothes with you all! And, if you’re ever in need of a life coach or just a general tune up, check out Debbie at Your Styled Story. You won’t regret it! So, can we talk? Do you think it’s important to know what kind of blog you’re reading? Or, do you just read them knowing this blog does this, and that blog does that? And, does it even matter? Please leave a comment or two, and we can talk! I will respond as quickly as I can!

That’s a pretty crochet tie!

Thank you!

Thank you a million times over for reading my blog. I truly do appreciate each person who reads. A huge shout out of gratitude goes to my subscribers! You are the best! If you’d like to follow me on Instagram, you can find me here.

  1. Marsha,
I got your feels with this lovely dress and the whole look. Regarding the importance of “finding your niche”, I think that it’s mostly applicable if your blogging goal is to create an income stream. Personally, that’s not my goal so I include a bit of many things on my blog. And those are the types of blogs I prefer to read as well.

    • Thanks, Rena! I do love this dress and hope to wear it lots! I hadn’t really thought about that…creating an income stream. This particular blogger I was referring to is definitely one of those who makes lots of money. I was honestly surprised she answered my email! And, yes, I love to read blogs with information about lots of things which is why I love your blog so much!

  2. I always disliked the word niche. What the hell, i don’t want to have a niche. I just want to write what I want when I want. Luckely you do too. I like that dress a lot, the lenght is so good to wear when it’s so hot. And it is over here. Have a great day!

    • Thanks, Nancy! I love this dress and look forward to wearing it a lot! As far as my niche, I agree with you…I just like to read what others say and hope others like to read what I write!

  3. What a pretty dress; I love the different color pleats! I used to blog about homeschooling only trying to find my niche but that felt so limiting to me so as I branched out to include more of “me” I became more of a lifestyle blogger. Blogs change and evolve and I think readership changes and evolves to meet whatever you decide to share.

    • I think you are probably right…I don’t know that I will ever figure out what my niche is. And, that’s ok! I hadn’t thought about the readers evolving just as I am.

      Thanks, Joanne!

  4. That dress has such great details that make it really special! The contrasting fabric in the pleats is stunning as you move. Finding our niche is the problem I think. Most days I feel like I am struggling and feel like I am all over the place. I’m constantly writing and re-writing my About Me and my bio on IG (like anyone really reads it- ha!). We are all in this together I guess!

    Kellyann

    • Thanks, Kellyann! I didn’t mention on the blog…I also bought a skirt in the same fabrics as well as a top! It’s good to know I’m in such wonderful company! Writing a blog is so much more difficult than I thought…just from the standpoint of coming up with topics and making them relevant!

  5. Marsha, I love this dress on you! And I love Debbie and that she helped you get established in the blogosphere so I could get to know you better! I have struggled with classifying the genre of my blog as well and I usually end up saying it’s a fashion and lifestyle blog. But I share so many different things as well that it feels more like an online journal. Maybe we should just call them “journal blogs” or “diary blogs” or just “life blogs”! That can be our new blog genre…Just Life Blogs. I am glad you were able to clean out your crumby cookie jar and make your way back to my Life Blog from your laptop!

    Shelbee

    • Awww, thanks, Shelbee! Debbie is the best…I was so excited to actually talk to her! She is like a unicorn…gorgeous, glittery, and badass as all get out! I cannot imagine not blogging anymore…I’ve “met” so many fabulous people, like you! Oh, that’s a wonderful idea…Life Blogs! Yep, who would have thought those cookies would be such a pain!

  6. I definitely get all the Cinderella feels with you in this dress! It really is pretty! I need to get serious with my blogging and trying to work with brands. I guess I am a little shy in that way! Now that I have time on my hands I need to put myself out there! And I guess I don’t have a niche, a lifestyle blogger feels like it imcompasses what I do though since I do travel and fashion and budgeting!

    • Thanks, Mireille! It really is a pretty dress, isn’t it? As for trying to work with brands, I’ve surprised myself at how bold I’ve been. Sometimes, it’s paid off; sometimes, it hasn’t! I think you are definitely a lifestyle blogger with a heavy dose of fashion!

  7. Sometimes I appreciate variety in the blogs I read. Sure, I love fashion (no surprise there), but it’s nice to learn all kinds of things even if it’s just good story telling (which you are a pro at Marsha)>

    • Awww, thanks, Jodie! My students always knew I was a storyteller, too! They’d get me started on a tangent, not realizing I had an end in mind!

  8. I adore this dress on you Marsha! It does make you look like Cinderella. You definitely are a storyteller and a fashion blogger. I love that mix! That’s your niche!

  9. That dress is absolutely amazing! I love the inverted pleats with the contrasting fabric. A fabulous look! As for as finding your niche – I think it’s overrated unless blogging is your job (and even then, I’m not sure). I love hearing about your life as well as enjoying your fashion choices. I think it’s okay to mix it up. I certainly do.

    • It’s funny…when I do just a fashion post, it just feels incomplete. I have no idea what my niche is and don’t really worry about it. I just thought it an odd piece of advice! Isn’t this dress fabulous? I cannot wait to wear it again!

  10. What a pretty dress on you! Love the print and the twirl factor! You look fabulous!

  11. I’ve talked with other bloggers about niches. It’s hard! I think since it’s a hobby for me, I post whatever I want! And if that’s what makes you happy, I encourage that as well. Love this beautiful dress on you! It’s such a pretty color!

    • Thanks, Laura! It is a hobby for me, too. Part of the reason I started blogging was to learn. Boy, have I learned! I honestly don’t worry very much about my niche. I just want to put out quality posts (usually)!
