As y’all know, I love buying multiples of items I really like. If I find a specific kind of tee, I’ll buy it in several colors. The same goes for a certain kind of slip…wink, wink! I just realized it also applies to the theater! My daughter and I saw “Wicked” for the second time together. The first time we saw it was several years ago in Richmond, Virginia. I have seen it in several other places.
The Wizard and I…
One of the places Nigel saw “Wicked” with me was in South Bend, Indiana, at a beautiful old theater. When Nigel and I went, we had the best seats. We were in the Orchestra section on the aisle. Now, I hope I don’t spoil anything for anyone. But, at the beginning, when the confetti comes shooting out, we were covered in it! I can remember that day as if it were yesterday. In fact, I still have the clothing I wore that day, and I hope to wear it again soon. Don’t worry, it’s classic so it won’t look dated.

The Wizard and us…
A few years ago, I saw it in Indianapolis at the Murat Theater (AKA the Old National Centre) with my best friends. I remember exactly what I was wearing that time as well as what I wasn’t! We were eating lunch, and I realized I was missing an earring. Now, this wasn’t just any earring. This was one of the gold earrings Nigel had bought me for Christmas one year. Turns out, I’d just forgotten to put it on, but I was heartsick during the matinee that time. I still loved seeing the Wizard!

The Wizard over the years…
A few years after seeing “Wicked” at that beautiful old theater in South Bend, we also saw it in Columbus, Ohio. I must admit I cannot, for the life of me, remember when or where I saw it for the first time. I am almost positive it wasn’t with Nigel. So, if you’re reading this, and you know…let me know!

The Wizard with an accent…
One year, Nigel and I were in London. I mentioned it would be fun to see “Wicked” in another country. At first, Nigel was reluctant, but he agreed when he saw how excited the thought made me (yes, I’m spoiled). The songs and speeches were just as wonderful in an English accent! Was it more special? Not really, but it was fun.

A Wizard wish…
I hope to see “Wicked” someday on Broadway. I have thought about going by myself, but the idea, frankly, terrifies me. New York City is the one large city that really and truly intimidates me. I just need to find someone who wants to go with me! I also think I probably would be wise to wait until all the hubbub around the two movies dies down a bit. The prices right now are really high but maybe they always are.

The latest Wizard…
Early this spring, I was able to buy two tickets to see “Wicked” at the Murat, also known as the Old National Centre. My daughter and I saw the movie when it came out late last year and will, hopefully, see the second one later this year. So, it was only natural to ask her if she wanted to go with me. She had no idea where our tickets were. She was really surprised when she saw where we were headed! We were seated in Orchestra Center in Row F. When Elphaba came center stage to sing, I swear we were looking each other in the eyes!

Wizard wonders…
What do I love most about “Wicked?” Where do I start? I love the songs, obviously. I mean, can you sit through “Popular” without singing along? Or, how do you stop the tears when Elphaba belts out “Defying Gravity” all while saying goodbye to Glinda? The soundtrack is just one wonderful song after the other. But, the costumes! Oh, my goodness! I’ve always loved the whimsical qualities of the production, but when you’re that close, you see the details. My favorite? It would have to be one of the dancers who has the multi-layered skirt. Oh, and let’s talk about the shoes! I actually googled it because I really want a pair. They’re custom made by LaDuca Shoes which means I won’t be getting any. The closest I can come will probably be a pair of Fluevogs! Someday, my friends, someday! And, then there’s the social commentary. It’s there if you listen. The movie and the play, ultimately, are about acceptance, and I love that.

The outfit…
When my daughter and I started talking about actually going, I asked her, totally in fun, if she was wearing pink or green. We were FaceTiming so she went into her closet and started looking. Obviously, she was wearing pink because…well…she loves pink. I was totally kidding her, but I decided to wear green. We received so many comments on our looks because many people were just dressed in office casual. Of course, there were some little girls all dressed up as either Glinda or a bad witch (not necessarily Elphaba). My dress is from J Jill. I think I bought it before the pandemic. The sweater is from Garnet Hill and is a Signature Eco Merino Cardigan. It’s probably 10-15 years old. I was amazed at how the greens matched!

The Lewk!

I haven’t necessarily embraced the sneaker and dress lewk, yet. Part of that is because I have so many fun shoes and sandals! My daughter (who often influences me though she doesn’t know it) had some adidas Sambas in a neutral suede. I decided I didn’t really want those especially after seeing these adidas Samba OG sneakers in cream white/violet/sand. I knew we would be walking a bit after parking (though we ended up right across the street). I’m slowly breaking these in and really like them. My J Jill necklace is from a few years ago. You can’t really see it, but the earrings (bought at the museum gift store) kinda match the beads on the necklace. I added several gold beaded stretch bracelets.
Wrap it up, Marsha!
First of all, I have to apologize for my photos. I think my phone’s camera lens must have been dirty, or maybe it was fuzz from my purse! My youngest son is always razzing me about seeing “Wicked” so often. Here’s the thing. I love it. I love everything about it. I love the songs, the costumes, and the social commentary. It has something for everyone in it. I also love how it does tie into The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L Frank Baum. So, can we talk? Is there a movie or play you’ve seen over and over again? Do you dress according to colors, characters, or something else? Have you seen “Wicked (movie or play)?” Please leave me a comment or two, and we can talk. I promise to respond as quickly as I can.

Thank you!

That outfit is a great combo! What a fun idea to wear green and pink to go see Wicked. I have never seen it myself, neither on stage nor the movies.
I can’t walk in Sambas. Even before my feet gave me trouble, Sambas gave me trouble, no idea why. I have been wearing Superstars for more than half of my life and pretty much exclusively for years now.
There are movies I watch over and over again. They are like soul food.
Thanks, Cat! I was just kidding when I asked my daughter what color she was going to wear. But, when she said she was going to wear pink, I decided to wear green. I was glad to find this combination! I love both of them, but I prefer the play.
I thought I’d give these a chance, and I’m glad I did. There are some I just can’t wear, either. Soul food is a great way to express it!
That outfit is fabulous – but I love the top the most. It’s my kind of top and both dress and top are in a lovely shade of green.
Oh my word, I have to admit I have never seen Wicked! I’m a film fan rather than a theatre girl. Will be out this week with a girlfriend to our local independent cinema – can’t wait for that.
Btw love the necklace, and I do wear trainers/sneakers with dresses as I think it adds an edge to the outfit.
Thanks, Penny! I love it, too! I have a large collection of these sweaters. I wore them a lot when I was teaching. They were quite a bit less money back then, too. Their prints these days are not near as good, either.
I love the theater and would go every week if I could. But, I love movies almost as much! I am sure there’s probably an independent cinema around here, but I’m not sure where. I hope you have lots of fun with your girlfriend that day!
This necklace is just so versatile, and I wear it with so many different kinds of looks. I’m still in the “learning” phase of wearing sneakers with dresses. But, I liked the way this came out.
Love the outfit! Alec and I are hoping to see Wicked this year since it’s coming to one of our local theaters. I’ve been stalking their page so I don’t miss when their tickets go on sale.
Thanks, Joanne! I hope you can get tickets, too. I was surprised at how relatively inexpensive ours were. I just happened to get lucky and got those fabulous seats. Good luck!
I adore this look on you! You look stunning in this color. That cardigan is so pretty! I love Wicked too. The music is so inspiring!
https;//www.kathrineeldridge.com
Thank you so much, Kathrine! Shhhh…don’t tell anyone! I had forgotten about this dress and was thrilled when I found it and that it matched the sweater so well. I love the songs, too! They are just so wonderful and really speak to me. I’m glad you think so, too.
I saw Wicked years ago and would love to see it again! I always love a dress and sneakers combo, and this look is absolutely fabulous! Your necklace is so cool too!
Jill – Doused in Pink
Thanks, Jill! Well, if it makes it to Chicago again, we should make it a date! I like the sneakers with the dress. I think it’s because they are a slimmer kind of sneaker. They get more and more comfortable with every wear.
Phantom of the Opera. Saw it over and over. Just saw Wicked for the first time last year. It was amazing. And I love your outfit. So perfect for Wicked.
Thanks, Laurel! Oh, my goodness!! I love Phantom! The 25th Anniversary special used to be on Netflix, and I would watch it with my grands. Their favorite was “Masquerade.” I took my oldest granddaughter to see it for her 6th birthday (I think), and we had the worst seats. We were in the last row. I was able to get a box thing for her to sit on so she could see it. But, she didn’t see the chandelier. I hope to take her when it comes back to Indianapolis. Phantom runs a very close second to Wicked!
That’s a pretty colour. I’m not a big theatre attendee, so I’ve not seen Wicked. But I’ve read most of the original Wizard of Oz books!
Thanks, Rosie! I love the theatre, but I rarely get to go. I really wanted to see “Six” about Henry VIII’s wives, but I couldn’t get tickets. I have read the first two Oz books. They are very different from the movie, aren’t they?
Yes the original books are quite different. I thought they were worth reading just to say I had done it. I must confess to not getting to the final two.
Now, I’m going to have to see if I can find them and read them in my spare time (hahaha)!
Love the outfit Marsha! I’ve seen Wicked here in Orlando but didn’t have great seats and didn’t really enjoy it that much. I did watch the movie once it came out to rent on Netflix or Prime. It was so long it took me a few nights but I enjoyed it!
xo,
Kellyann
Thanks, Kellyann! I was so happy with the way the greens matched. I think we’ve always had good seats, but the seats we had last week were the best by far. My daughter and I saw the movie on opening nights…I guess that makes us official Wicked nerds, right?
Oh I love that green outfit! But I’m sorry, I’m not a fan of Wicked. I don’t like musicals or films with songs at all. My favourite movie ever is Pulp Fiction. And yes, the last time I saw it on a cinema I wrote a white blouse , black cropoed trousers and ballerinas!
Thanks, Nancy! I completely forgot about this dress and was thrilled at how closely the sweater matched. That’s OK, Nancy…I didn’t used to like musicals, either. But, now, I love some of them. I remember watching Pulp Fiction and not understanding it at all. Isn’t if funny how we can remember what we wore to certain things? I bet you looked fabulous!
I’ve never seen Wicked in a play or otherwise but we own the book. The movies I’ve watched over and over are Singing In the Rain and The Quiet Man. And The Princess Bride. I can recite quite a bit of all three of those movies. I don’t always watch the movies all the way through but at least my favorite parts.
Thanks, Lisa! My daughter-in-law bought me the book after I’d seen the play. It’s quite a bit different from the play. I think the movie is closer to the book than the play. I love them both, though. I am probably the only person on the planet who has not seen The Princess Bride. I have seen Singing in the Rain but not The Quiet Man. I am one of those weird people who has to watch from the beginning to the end, too!
First of all, Marsha, you look fabulous in green! That’s so fun that you’ve seen Wicked in a number of different venues. I love that. I’ve never seen a live performance of Wicked. I did go to the movie when it came out…which turned out to be only part 1, which was a little disappointing. We are going to see The Wizard of Oz in an outdoor amphitheatre this fall, which I am really looking forward to.
Thank you so much, Christie! I like green. I’m not sure why I don’t wear it more, but I guess I should. The think I am always amazed at is that there’s always something new that I notice. This time, being so close to the stage, I was able to really see the costumes (and shoes) up close! I did know, before seeing it, that there were two parts. I think, since they made it right after the first one, they shouldn’t have waited. I do know, however, that the holiday season is always a good time for a movie to come out. I remember, when I was a little girl, how I would look forward to seeing the movie on tv every year. I couldn’t wait until it switched to color once we got a color tv…yes, I am just that old!
I love that you wore green to the show. The first time we saw it was on Broadway, so the movie was a disappointment to us. Yet, it’s still amazing.
AND LOVE the sneakers with that dress.
XOXO
Jodie
Thanks, Jodie! I don’t think the pink and green were necessarily part of the play as much as the movie. I liked the shoes with this dress. They’re a slimmer shoe so they didn’t look clunky to me. I loved the movie, too, but for different reasons. Part of it was that they stuck a little more closely to the book, and the other part was how they expanded on things like the students going to Shiz for the first time! I’m still hoping to see it on Broadway!
The olive green looks so good on you Marsha and I do like your cardigan with the dress. I will admit to not being a fan of sneakers with dresses , a bit too casual for me .
I have never seen Wicked either on stage or movie . You do really love it . It is rare for me to see anything on repeat as I fear it will never be as good as the first time.
Thank you, Jill! I’m not really a fan, either, but I thought we’d be doing quite a bit of walking after parking. I ended up rather liking them with this dress, though. I have to admit there is always a little bit of something that seems either different or added or something every time I see it. It probably helps that several years pass between seeing it so I forget! There are some things I can’t watch over though. I’ve actually tried to rewatch the movie, “Wicked,” and I find I just don’t have the desire to do so. I probably will before the next one comes out later this year to refresh my memory.
Hi, Marsha – Your outfit is fantastic! And wearing the Samba sneakers with the dress gives you a youthful vibe. I have not seen Wicked, mostly because my husband knows so much about the political background of The Wizard of Oz that he is totally uninterested in seeing this new story. In fact, I don’t think he ever wanted to see The Whiz either because he is so attached to the original story. I can’t believe you are such a junkie for Wicked, though. Wow, so many times! I’m sure you’ll absolutely love the Broadway play! – Angie, http://www.yourtrueselfblog.com
Thanks, Angie! I don’t usually wear sneakers with a dress, but I really thought they looked cute with the dress. I didn’t know about the political background of the Wizard of Oz…I’ll have to google that! I never saw the Wiz, but it’s coming to Indianapolis next year some time. I don’t know what it is about this play, but I just love it! I’ll let you know if I ever make it to Broadway!
These greens look fabulous on you Marsha, I love this look! Such fun choosing to wear pink or green too. You’re a real groupie where Wicked is concerned!
Thanks, Debbie! I don’t know why I don’t have more green, but it’s not a color I usually buy. I guess you could call me a groupie! I just sit there with a goofy smile on my face, singing along in my head! We had a blast and both had tears in our eyes at the same time!

I love this outfit, Marsha! Such an amazing color on you.
Thanks, Michelle! I know you can’t really see it, but the greens match exactly! I was just poking around in my closet when I found the dress, and then held it up to my sweaters to see what matched. And, there it was!
I believe I was one of the lucky ones (along with Mary) who got to go with you to see Wicked the first time in Chicago in 2008. I remember we rode the South Shore in and stopped at Marshall Fields on State Street afterwards. Thank you again for the special treat!
Thanks, Steph! See, I knew someone would know when i saw it for the first time. I cannot recall it at all, but I’m sure you’re right! I kinda thought I’d seen it in Chicago, but I wasn’t sure.

I love your outfit! That gorgeous shade of green looks amazing on you. I haven’t seen Wicked but my daughter went to see the film with a friend and loved it (she dressed in pink). Thanks for linking!

Thank you, Emma! I was so surprised at how well the greens matched for both pieces. I really need to wear more of the green in my closet. When we saw the movie, I don’t think we dressed up in colors. It was fun to see how people dressed up for the play.
