Week 132!

Happy Thanksgiving to those of you who are in the States! Are you in a turkey coma right now? For the last several years, we have bought a smoked turkey from a restaurant. It’s delicious, and the guesswork of cooking a turkey is gone. As per usual, I messed up on the few things I had to bring! I make my Aunt Lou’s Cherry Delights which is a bit like a no bake cheesecake with cherry pie filling on top. I also make a second one with blueberry pie filling on top. Well, I had to go to WalMart because Kroger was out of blueberries. I was shocked to see so many cans at WalMart. Guess what? They were blackberries!!! And, I ran out of graham cracker crumbs so the crust as a little light. I also make my mom’s cheesy potatoes. They were just icky as far as I was concerned. So, I’m batting about .33 when it comes to family dinners! Since it’s Thanksgiving, I hope you’ll forgive me for skipping the featured favorites. Anyway, it’s time for the Weekend Traffic Jam Reboot! I’m not sure about times right now, but I will still be aiming for 9:30 pm EDT. So, on with the show, right?

As part of our new year reboot, we are now shining the spotlight on a different blogger each week. We invite you to stop by their blog, take a look around and say hello! This week, we spotlight Anam from My Inspired Home.

Anam says, “I’m a story teller. Everyday, I make someone listen to me as I talk about how I caught my bus last minute, which YouTube video I watched, why my little brother made me laugh, or what I think about a politician who’s acting up.  Throughout my youth, I would victimize my mom, siblings or a fellow school buddy for this purpose.  When I graduated from university, it hit me that I would no longer meet the people I’d been seeing for the past four years!  And of course, it was a given that they were gonna miss hearing about my adventures… 😛 Besides, I thought having a blog would be a great way to keep in touch. It’s also fun to read a piece written by someone you personally know or have been following for sometime.

More recently, this blog has taken a new turn and became an extension of my Instagram account which is focused on my Home Decor & working mom lifestyle. And I have to say I’m really enjoy writing about these topics.

I like to believe that there’s always new, exciting opportunities for me around the corner so I keep a look out for them. Through this blog, I wanna share my experiences and the extraordinary lessons I learn from my ordinary life.  I want this blog to expand and mature.  But it can go crazy and then stay crazy if it wants.  It can even go missing and then rediscover itself.  I’ll share a whole bunch of stuff – my home decor, lifestyle, travel tales, impromptu singing sessions, or even my random observations as a bystander on the street.  As a matter of fact, I was originally going to call it “The Everything Blog” until my sister told me that it would be really “lame.” I believe her.

Anyway, I’m excited to have you join me. Please don’t be afraid to comment and say hi! :)” Please stop by her blog, say, “Hi!,” and let her know we sent you!

  1. I hope you had a good Thanksgiving (despite the icky potatoes ;-))!
    Have a lovely weekend.

    • Thanks, Cat! I know exactly how my mom made these potatoes (kartoffel, right?), but I just can never get them perfectly right. But, somehow, they all got eaten! Between the mashed potatoes and mine, there were 20 pounds of potatoes! I’m not sure how much was left of the mashed potatoes, though.

  2. Hi Marsha, Thanksgiving food challenges are not mistakes…they are food adventures. Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

  3. Oh no! Sorry your recipes didn’t turn out well. We had a lovely dinner. Then I spent an hour or two this afternoon putting up all the Christmas decorations in the whole house.

    • Thanks, Joanne! I just didn’t plan well, I think. I though I had two full containers of graham cracker crumbs. And, I should have put the potatoes into one pan instead of two. Then, all would have been good!

  4. Since we have been at the beach for the past several years for Thanksgiving (maybe 8 years now) we usually don’t cook a whole turkey but just a breast and then some sweet potatoes and a large salad. My husband does a great job of it! Christmas dinner (we do it on the 26th since it is more of a potluck after church on Christmas day) is where I do a little more and we usually do a whole turkey. I kind of like ham better but majority rules!

  6. I hope you had a great thanksgiving. Don’t even know when it was……. thanks for hosting love.

  7. Thanks so much for the party, Marsha! We were at my daughter’s home (a 5+ hour drive) and while I helped with the meal, it felt a bit different since I was trying to contribute our normal favorites (the dressing is #1) while also coming up with gluten and dairy free options for my hubby! Your Aunt Lou’s cherry delights sure sound delicious!

    • You’re so welcome, Laura! It really is different when you shift the duties, isn’t it? My Aunt Lou was the best cook ever…even better than my mom who was really good. Aunt Lou just loved to cook for her families! I’m glad you were able to accommodate your husband’s needs, too. That must have been difficult at first.

  8. The blackberry version sounds like it would have been good! And I love cheesy potatoes. My SIL’s mom makes them and that is probably what I eat the most of. Lol.

    • Thanks, Erin! I like blackberries, but I don’t like the seeds. I know that’s one of the things you just have to live with when you eat blackberries. I think the biggest problem I had with the potatoes this time was putting them into too many pans. I usually eat that most, too. When my mom was alive, we’d have dressing (rather than stuffing). That’s what I ate the most of then!
